All wishes are written based on the practice of numerous battles as well as tournaments held in the Russian community of Praetorians from February 2009 to February 2016. Please note the following comments and suggestions.
To add
3D rotation as it was done in the game Sudden Strike 4
The option to disable the menu of the game “text on screen messages” leaving only sound alerts.
Latinized text version for a great match of the ancient era, which, if desired, can be replaced by the desired
Please add the hotkeys settings via the menu, for changing the settings via a text file is not particularly convenient.
Should add a combat formation for the Praetorians units since it is somewhat undignified to watch as an elite squad of heavy infantry walks like a crowd of vagrants. It turns out that the training of the auxiliary infantry is much higher than that of those who, by default, is the standard.
“Cohort“ or “Standard“ for column of route like Spearmen
“Protective“ for combat like Spearmen
These formations should not be considered as an additional gain Praetorians units. It's just a visualization of the fact that the squad is part of the famous roman combat system where discipline is the most important indicator..
Replace sounds when addressing command units as the appeal “general” makes some dissonance
A sound appeal will sound better if you call the commander
legate or tribune for the Romans. Such appeals are more suitable for the era of ancient Rome
Dux for Gauls
On a note: The best option in terms of dubbing units was achieved in the German version and the most atmospheric in transmitting voice differences for each nation was the English version
Campaign
Adding roman military rank and awards: Coronas, Phaleras, Armillas, Torques to the menu after completing a campaign mission depending on losses, time, etc. Trifle but nice.
Improve the video player of the recorded games, because with frequent switching players during playback, it gives failures
Improve unit textures so that the exterior decor of the Roman shield is not an internal background. The inner background is better to make dark. In any case, if developers make new textures for shields like New Scuta Decor for Praetorians for Romans, Barbarians and Egyptians, and in the future for other nations, the game and fans will benefit from this improvement.
It will be nice if the game will improve the difficulty of passing for each difficulty level. In addition, for greater atmosphericity, each level of difficulty can be assigned a Roman military rank.
For instance
Tiro (Recruit) – Easy
Legionarius – Normal
Praetorian – Heavy
A couple of new levels you can even add i think none of the players will not mind
Legatus (Primipilus) – Very Heavy
Caesar (Legatus) – Suicidal
As an option
Transfer the mission description to the submenu, briefing, before starting a mission, some kind of diary,
notes about the Gallic Wars on behalf of Caesar or on behalf of a player in the role of legate. Like Call of Duty. Video briefing at the beginning of the mission remains unchanged.
Developers could bring the first four training missions to one separate training mission. Let's call it “Military Call-ups”, Cisalpine Gaul 58 BC in which Caesar forms legions to march into Gaul.
Here, the player in the role of a young legate or military tribune is trained: commanding the initial units, learns to march, run, study formations, shoot a bow at the haystacks and a lawn with grass, ballist, catapults, construction of watchtowers, throwing machines so then do not engage in the course of the plot of this nonsense.
Visualization of the training process in the background by neutral units would facilitate the rapid learning of the course. The mission ends with an accelerated march to the far corner of the map for a time. If the player has not managed to reach the edge, then he will have to start all over again.
All numbered missions, starting with the “South of the Alps”, have an improved level of difficulty in passing and a slightly improved plot.
Especially recommended
Add a map editor with the game as well as tutorial pdf or even better video tutorials that would allow a game fans to create their own multiplayer maps.
For example, a map editor created by game fans does not have a full set of functions.
The lack of clear and understandable guidance for creating maps deprives the game of any potential for the flight of creative thought of fans. This circumstance makes it impossible for the game to develop.
Further
The number of people who were able to independently figure out and create maps can be counted on one hand by fingers. Attempts of many other fans who tried to figure out and create their own maps to improve and increase the list of locations for the battles ended at the editor launch stage. This was a clear and big defect in the development and support of the Praetorians project by the Pyro Studios campaign.
Adding a map editor and a map creation guide to the game doesn’t devalue the developer’s work, but it will give a new boost to the game’s life. Example Warcraft 3 is very indicative in this regard.
Increase the number of multiplayer maps having the dimensions of the below locations which provide maximum dynamism and tight combat contact. Also all locations of similar size should give the opportunity to play games for 4 or 6 players.
120x140 like Fields of War
140x140 like Flower of Conflict
120x120 like IS – Hammer und Ambolt (4) Germanicus Maps Pack Praetorians World fan maps pack
150x150 like A Quiet Lake or its improved version of [God] Batalla de l’Elbre (although the quality of the production of the fan map itself leaves much to be desired)
Add multiplayer maps giving the opportunity to assault and defend the fortress in 2x2, 3x3 game mode.
Add maps with the same relief but different landscape. Even the presence of several identical maps but with a different landscape: a forest, a desert or winter will be a pleasant addition
Multiplayer
Make the possibility of network games directly from the game (so that those who play on the console can play with those who are on the PC).
Downloading multiplayer maps from the player who created the room (so that there are no synchronization errors and attempts to explain for a long time who has no multiplayer map). Make the sameness check for the version of the game files before the battle.
Lastly
Day and night – this innovation could add not only the atmosphere for the campaign missions, but also a more flexible combat balance of units for night and day combat.
Thoughts offhand. Examples
For example, during the day, the legionnaires have a standard attack with both swords and pilums,
At night, the pilum throw does less damage by one-third because it is impossible to accurately throw at the target. Sword attack decreases slightly
During the day, barbarians have a standard attack. At night, the damage from the attack of throwing stones is lost, it is impossible to stun the enemy, but the attack increases in melee. Since it is quite common practice for barbarians to attack the enemy from ambushes and under cover of night.
Druid loses its ability to blind. Egyptian Official can not create mirages. Catapults and ballista lose up to half the accuracy of shooting at targets. Archers, regardless of the nation, receive a reduced damage radius and the amount of damage inflicted by arrows on the enemy.
Intelligence effectiveness Hawk Pathfinder at night reduced to zero. The main all-seeing eye was a wolf Pathfinder. All the detachments move more slowly, not because they have started to run worse, they feel emaciated, or their legs hurt, but because at night during the war in the dark it is impossible to move quickly, otherwise you can stumble your forehead on the signpost.
That is, the difference between day and night balance could have a significant effect on the fighting, both during the passage of campaign missions, and this is a very interesting idea for plot twists and for multiplayer battles.
I suppose adding the “watchfire” ability for auxiliary infantry to build a small fire pit (the activation of this ability is similar to regeneration — the fire stripe ended then went out) with a certain radius of illumination at night around the perimeter would give a chance to protect itself from a sudden attack.
In addition, you can add swampy areas like SS 4, where troops capable of walking through the water could drown once in the swamp, just as a detachment enters the burning grass. In winter, it may be areas of the water surface with thin ice marching through which the squad sinks.
In any case, during the passage of the campaign with such a turn of events, the missions would have played with other colors.
On perspective
To add
Gallic campaign 58–50 BC against the Romans
Early Imperial campaigns in Germania
Campaign based on the German Wars
Romans Campaigns of Drusus the Elder's, of Tiberius, of Germanicus
Germans Campaigns of Arminius
I guess a mini campaign for the Romans and Germans could be a special highlight.
"Quintili Vare, legiones redde!"
Conquest of Britain
Romans Campaign
Celtic Campaign
The Dacian Wars of Domitian
Romans Campaigns
Dacians Campaigns
Dacian war of Trajan
Romans Campaigns
Dacians Campaigns
Add new nations at least first for multiplayer and then for campaign
Macedonia, Carthage, Dacians, Germans, Celts, Parthia. If fans could do that, then professionals can do it.
As an option
Add a new unit standard bearer / Aquilifer or command units ability "Standard" / "Aquila"
Which when activated in battle will add
Romans of "Iron Fortitude "
Barbarians aggression "Fanatics attack"
Egyptians replenishment health for battered in battle units "Fanaticism"
Like the standard abilities of command units, this ability could have multiple upgrades and acted along the same lines.
